Basilica of Saint Mary Podcast

Jul 29, 2021

Bishop Michael F. Burbidge prayed with the Basilica of Saint Mary community, in Alexandria, VA, during a Holy Hour hosted by the Saint Katharine Drexel Society on July 28, 2021.

This podcast was Bishop Burbidge's reflection during the Holy Hour.

The society was founded in June of 2020 in response to recent events of racial injustice. The society prays for the healing of our nation, especially for the historical wounds inflicted by slavery that continue to affect our populace, and in reparation for the sins of racism, past and present.

The group prays the Rosary during the Basilica’s Holy Hour on Wednesdays from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. and meets at other times for prayer and fellowship. Father David Dufresne is the group’s chaplain.

Catholic teaching encourages reparations not only for our own sins, but through the virtue of the Communion of the Saints and the oneness of the mystical Body of Christ, to also make reparation for the sins of others.

Through our prayers, we ask God to repair the spiritual damage that has been done and to heal our community, our state, our country, and the world.
